Chapter Thirteen

Kane watched Sienna leave his office and sat down in his office chair. He pinched his bottom lip between his fingers as he went through what just happened. “Something’s off.”

Draven nodded. “I’d agree. Hell, maybe she did think she saw him, or it could be she wanted the attention.”

Kane shook his head. “Sienna wouldn’t do that. She honestly believes she saw him.”

“Call the Kansas City Police and see what they think.”

Kane nodded. “I’m going to do that now.”

He looked up the number and called. Ten minutes later, he put the phone down. He wiped a hand down his face. “Fuck, they say they think it’s him. They are just waiting on dental records.”

“Hey, Price, do you have the specs for the Thompson job?”

Kane turned toward the door. “No, shit. I’ll get to them.”

Caleb, one of the partners, grumbled. “If you took as much time working as you do daydreaming about your new little twinkie, we’d all be better off.”

Draven growled. “Fuck off, Caleb.”

Caleb raised his hands. “Fine. I was just making a suggestion.” He turned and walked off.

Kane looked at Draven. “Am I slacking?”

“Fuck no. He’s just a prick. He hasn’t gotten laid in years, and he’s jealous.”

Kane laughed. “Seriously, years?”

“Yup. Don’t laugh. I’m pretty damn close.”

“Fuck, man. Just get laid.”

Draven grunted. “I’m tired of one-night stands.”

“Just wait, you’ll find a woman.”

“Like Sienna?”

“I think so.”

Draven stood. “I’ll get back to it. Do you want me to take anything off your workload?”

Kane shook his head. “No. Thanks.”

He watched his friend leave and leaned back. Hell, he needed to do something. He wanted to tell her he was looking into it, but he also didn’t want to get her hopes up. He decided to keep quiet for the moment. When he had conclusive information, he’d tell her then.

A few hours later, he walked into his apartment. His heart lurched in his chest when he saw all the lights were off.

He set his briefcase down and went in search of her.

He stood in the doorway to the bedroom and exhaled. In one of his shirts, she was lying on her stomach in the middle of the bed. His gaze ran up her silky legs to the edge of the shirt that just covered her ass. Her long hair was spread over her back and seemed to shimmer in the light that he’d turned on in the hallway.

He couldn’t get over how beautiful she was. The fact they’d connected right away amazed him. He’d never fallen for a girl, much less that quickly.

Kane showered, and then he rolled on a condom before he lay down beside her. He slid his hand up and down her back, roaming over her ass and the back of her thighs before starting over.

She hummed and nestled against him.

“Hi, baby.”

She peeked up at him. “Hi.”

“Why are you so tired?”

She tried to smile, and it hurt him to watch because he could tell it was forced.

“You try shopping with Riley. Nia and I about dropped,” she murmured and then closed her eyes again.
